Diane Sterner Obituary

Diane L. Sterner, 61, passed away April 3rd, 2024, at Providence Place Assisted Living. She was born July 28th, 1962, in Abington, PA., to Donald E. and Florence L. Sterner.

Diane loved to be surrounded with life every day. Whether it be the radiant beauty of her gardens, the cozy comfort of her cats, or volunteering to help animals and people. Even more than animals and plants, she loved people, always finding herself at the heart of any community she touched. Her family was the most precious thing of all to her, extending far beyond those she was related to by blood. Her passion for people and love for family pushed her to look to the past. As part of the Upper Moreland Historical Society, she developed a passion for genealogy research of her family and others.

Her second family was always her church, a community of faith, love, and compassion. It was through her church that she often gave back to the people around her. Whether watching over children in daycare, assisting with community outreach through the Homeless Connection, spreading Christmas cheer by making wreaths, or volunteering at funerals, Diane made friends with those of all ages and walks of life. She never, ever forgot a name, no matter how briefly someone may have been in her life.

Diane walked slowly and laughed loudly. She collected stuffed animals and shot glasses from all over. She enjoyed playing Bejeweled and commenting on Facebook. She liked rock music, t-shirts with cute animals, and the color blue. She loved horror movies but got scared easily. Diane couldn’t stand seeing an animal in pain. She loved listening to stories of the past and correcting you if you got the story wrong. She loved gatherings of family and friends, and to be surrounded by their love and laughter.

In addition to her mother Floss, Diane is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Kristina and Timothy Sempowski, nieces Erin and Soairse, and nephew-in-law Ian Harris, as well as many close family members and loved ones, too numerous and precious to list. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald E. Sterner, with whom she is now reunited.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 27th, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 431 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastors Barbara Barry and Ruth Smith.
