Delores (Nick) Otenberger Obituary

Delores (Nick) L. Otenberger, 93, a life-long resident of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, passed away in the Chambersburg Hospital on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Nick was born in Chambersburg, PA on January 2, 1931, to J. Russell and D. Lauretta (Pheil) Schellhase. She was a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School class of 1949.  It was during high school when she met her adoring husband, C. Richard (Dick) Otenberger whom she married on August 19, 1950.  Nick was a long-time employee of the former Valley Bank, Chambersburg where she retired as a bank teller.  Nick never met a stranger and would go out of her way to make all feel welcome.  She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.  Spring and summer were certainly Nick’s favorite seasons of the year.  She enjoyed planting and maintaining annual plants and flowers around her home and supporting the Baltimore Orioles.  Even into her 90s, she made trimming shrubs and cleaning up her yard a priority.  She filled the winter months by attending musicals and theater shows.  Nick was an avid Bingo player who supported many of the local firehalls during weekly Bingo nights.  Being an extremely social individual, Bingo provided her the opportunity to connect with friends, of which she had many.  As much as she loved cooking, Bingo, and gardening, her greatest love was for her family.  Gee-Gee, as her granddaughters and great-grandchildren affectionally called her, enjoyed watching baseball, softball, volleyball and basketball when a great-grandchild was on the field or court. She also loved summers by the pool so she could picnic with her family and watch her loved ones swim.  Nick is survived by her two daughters Kathy (Otenberger) Mollett and her husband, Terry; Kelly (Otenberger) Crider and her husband, Mark all of Fayetteville; four granddaughters Nicole (Mollett) Brookens and her husband, Andy of Chambersburg, PA; Amber (Mollett) Myers and her husband, Erick of Fayetteville, PA; Emilee (Crider) Henry and her husband, David of Chambersburg, PA; Morgan (Crider) Chamberlin and her husband, Hunter of Shippensburg, PA.  Additionally, Nick was blessed with six great-grandchildren, Madison J. Brookens, Manning A. Brookens, Laken P. (Myers) Tinner and her husband Cameron; Taylor B. Myers, Laira M. Henry, and Logan M. Henry.  Nick was blessed to know of the anticipated birth of an additional great-grandchild due to arrive in September. Also surviving is Nick’s brother, Joseph Schellhase of Fayetteville.  Nick was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, C. Richard (Dick) Otenberger who passed away on June 14, 2017.  In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by brothers Glen Schellhase and James (Jim) Schellhase and sisters Retha Goetz and Vivian Newman.  A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 150 Norlo Drive, Fayetteville, Pennsylvania.  Pastor Robin Baer will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department, 101 West Main Street, Fayetteville, PA, 17222 or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 4309 Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg, PA, 17112.  The family would like to thank the staff at Chambersburg Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.
